Caution! Adopting this dog will dramatically change your life!

I find it fascinating that people who would never consciously discriminate against another person because of age or handicaps will openly resist adopting a dog because it's too old or has a physical imperfection. Expect to experience a glow of warm satisfaction if you decide to give one of these special greys a chance. Because, for starters, you are taking into your life a dog that would probably spend the rest of its life at the kennel simply because he or she was a little long in the tooth...or maybe didn't have that many teeth. Expect to develop a strong protective feeling toward this older or special needs racer.

The plus side to adopting an older or returned grey is the dogs have usually been in a home before, so you're past the stage of putting little post-its all over sliding glass doors and windows and agonizing over housebreaking. The older dog has been-there-done-that, he knows how the world works. On the "minus" side, an older dog may possibly be with you a few years less than a younger counterpart. But many of us have lost dogs at nine, six and even four years of age, so there are simply no guarantees as to how long you will have your greyhound friends or your human ones. Each day, with people and dogs, must be lived with appreciation and joy.

Snific has been adopted!

Hi, my name is Snific. I am a beautiful 4 year old brindle girl that is in need of a home. I had severe pannus when I arrived at GPA and my eyes were totally clouded over. But my friends here helped me out and now my eyes are clear and bright! They even got me these trendy pink sunglasses, it looks quite hollywood! Even though I love these people, I am ready for a forever home. The only thing my condition will require is that my new mom or dad give me daily eyedrops for the rest of my life. I have been told they aren't very expensive though. I may be a little shy at first, but once I warm up to you watch out I am a love bug! I really love other greyhounds so I would love it if I had a sister or brother.

Just want to follow up with a thank you to everyone that helped save Joe Bees eyesight.   His surgery was very successful and he is doing great!   The specialist says if he were a person he would probably need reading glasses for up close work as things close will tend to be a little blurry.  He says his distance vision is excellent.
He is pictured in his new shades (with flames up the side)...as you can tell he thinks he is pretty cool!    Pictured with him is his good friend Snific (she's the one in the lavendar shades with the flowers on the side).    Snific had severe pannus when we got her and her eyes were totally clouded over.   She is on daily eye drops now (which she will need for the rest of her life) but her eyes look clear and bright.   Snific is looking for the right home....most adopters have steered clear of her when they hear about the eye problem.
Joe Bee has found his forever home...as soon as his doctor releases him to travel he will be on his way to Indiana.    His new mom (who has made several trips to Daytona to transport our seizure dogs back up north and is with GPA Indianapolis) recently lost her heart dog to cancer.    Rest assured that Joe Bee is going to have an excellent home.
Again, many, many thanks to all of you for giving Joe Bee the gift of sight!
